One of the most frequently asked questions from my clients is what to wear on the day of the photo shoot. There are lots of things family members can wear for a family shoot, but for the portrait to turn out well, it is important that the family wardrobe is carefully planned. I've put together this guide based on my own experience of what looks great on camera.

 DON'T MATCH

Choose a color scheme and stick with that. Being too matchy is actually distracting in photos.

DON'T BE AFRAID OF PATTERNS

Plaids, polka dots, florals and stripes can be overwhelming when paired all together but a pattern (or two tastefully) is another great way to add interest to your photos.

DO PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR SHOES

Shoes matter! A pair of Nike sneakers mixed in with cute boots can be an eye sore in your photos. If we are shooting at the beach, plan for everyone to be barefoot. If not, try to stick with neutral shoes for the whole family.

FOR THE KIDS

My favorite dresses for little girls are Alice & Ames. Dress the kids in clothes that fit perfectly-even if they are only wearing it for a few months, it's best to have them fit just right than too big in their photos.

If children are being photographed together, choose clothes that are similar in style to give a more coordinated look. I love bare feet, and kids love it too.

*FOR THE MAMA'S

My #1 recommendation is a long dress or floor length skirt. Maxi jersey knit are comfy, timeless, and flattering. Pick something that you love and feel 100% comfortable and confident in and build around that.

WHY?

1. They flow so nice in any breeze, and have a timeless look in portraits.

2. You can run, play, sit, stand, and feel confident that you are not showing too much.
